Japan Heart will open second self-operated hospital “The Japan Heart Asia Pediatric Medical Center” on October 30th, 2025. It is a 200-bed comprehensive children’s hospital near Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
Under the philosophy of “equal medical care for all children,” we aim to eliminate the survival gap between developing and developed countries in Asia, striving to become a new center for advanced pediatric care in the region. The hospital will focus particularly on providing free treatment for pediatric cancer, a field where survival rates vary greatly due to the high cost and complexity of care- often beyond the reach of international medical support. In parallel, the center will also prioritize training and empowering local medical professionals to build a sustainable healthcare system for the future.
Since 2009, Japan Heart has been providing mobile medical services in Cambodia, bringing healthcare to those in underserved areas. In 2016, we established current hospital “the Japan Heart Children’s Medical Center” which continues to operate to this day. As one of the few charitable hospitals in the country offering free treatment for pediatric cancer, the center plays a truly unique and vital role. Our activities have gained widespread support across Cambodia, and the new hospital project has also received donations from local communities- reflecting the high level of trust and great expectations placed on us by the people we serve.
The new hospital is located in Takhmao City, near the site of the international airport scheduled to open in 2026. It will significantly improve both capacity and accessibility compared to the existing Japan Heart Children’s Medical Center, which has been operating since 2016. This expansion will enable us to reach and save more children from impoverished backgrounds. With a total project cost exceeding 1 billion yen, the hospital is being built with support from donors both in Japan and abroad—a hospital created together with our supporters.
